Classroom Activities
What are we working on?
In Math, we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes and the common geometric attributes including sides, vertices, and faces or surfaces. We continue studying addition and subtraction with a focus on personal problem-solving strategies as we build our numeracy and mental math skills. You can keep helping your child at home with math facts and rapid recall of addition and subtraction to 20.
In Language Arts, we continue working on our writing program with sentence structure. We are learning about how to identify and write complete sentences, that they must include a subject and a predicate, and how we can elaborate to include more detail. We are working on our first novel study on Mr. Popper’s Penguins. We will be starting our nonfiction penguin research writing activity that will help us prepare for our Wonder Projects beginning after the break. Our grammar focus on contractions has been completed and we will be starting on root words, prefixes and suffixes.
In Social Studies, we have completed our unit on the community of Meteghan, Nova Scotia and are now learning about Iqaluit, Nunavut and comparing it to our community.
In Science, we have begun our new until on Energy through investigating sound and light, where they come from, how they move, and how we perceive them.
We are learning about Kindness and being respectful to everyone in Health.
